Robert L. “Bob” Hess, 88, died Friday, November 27, 2009 in the Palliative Care Unit at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Memories celebrating Bob’s wonderful life will be shared by the family in a private service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Iowa City Noon Lions Club. Lensing Funeral & Cremation service is assisting with the arrangements.
Bob was born in Iowa City, graduated from The University of Iowa and was a LT JG Aviator in the Navy Air Corp during WWII. He owned and managed Coral Court Apartments in Coralville for many years. His Passion for flying instilled what has become three generations of pilots within his family. His love for the outdoors made him a conservationist as well as an avid hunter and fisherman. He was actively involved in the American Legion Post #721 and the Iowa City Noon Lions Club.
On December 26, 1945, Bob married Jackie (Drije) of Berwyn, IL. They lived in Illinois for 18 years and then returned to Iowa City, residing in his childhood home on Dodge street until recently.
Survivors include Bob and Jackie’s two children Robert (Kathy) Hess and Candice (Rick) Thiele, a daughter –in- law Ella Hess, 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a son Mike in 2005.
