Mark T. Jaspers, 68, of Iowa City died suddenly on Thursday, October 29. A gathering for family and friends will be held from 4-7 pm on Monday, November 2 at The Kirkwood Room at Governor’s Ridge, 515 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City (adjacent to Lensing Funeral Home). A Memorial Service will be held at 11:45am on Friday, November 6 at Pax Christi Catholic Community in Eden Prarie, MN where the family will greet friends from 11am until service time. Interment will follow at 2pm at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in care of the Mercy Hospital Foundation for Cardiac Rehab, 500 E. Market Street, Iowa City, IA 52245. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City is handling the arrangements.
Mark was born in Shakopee, MN on July 16, 1941, the son of George and Loretta (Heibel) Jaspers. He graduated from The University of Minnesota with a BA in 1963, his D.D.S in 1968, and his MS in Oral Pathology in 1977. On May 5, 1984, Mark married Nancy Lee in St. Paul, MN. Mark was an Associate Professor at The University of Iowa College of Dentistry in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department. He was also a 35 year member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society and a retired Naval Commander in The United States Navy. Mark was always the life of the party. “He loved life, his family and a good time.
Survivors include his wife Nancy of Iowa City, a daughter Renee (Paul) Anderson and their children Emma, William and Erin of Chanhassen, MN, a daughter Aimee (Chris) McGuire and their children Meghan and Abigail of Eden Prarie, MN, a son Tony (Cheryl) Hanson and their children Elizabeth, Michael and Stephanie of Hutchinson, MN and a son Nick (Patricia Bailey) Hanson of Cincinnati, OH, a brother Donald (Karen) Jaspers of Oakdale, MN and a sister Georgia (Paul) Horn of Islip Terrace, NY. Mark was preceded in death by his parents.
