Emma S. Braverman, 98, formerly of 712 River Street, Iowa City, died Wednesday, May 12, 2004 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she had lived for over 40 years.

Mrs. Braverman was born in June 2, 1905 in Iowa City, the daughter of Myer and Selma Snider. She was a 1922 graduate of City High School and had lived in Iowa City for over 50 years. She graduated from business school and worked in a bank and later in relatives’ food businesses.

In 1925, she married Eli Braverman, a partner in Braverman and Worton, an auto parts and service business in Iowa City. The Bravermans were active in the development of Agudas Achim Synagogue and its Hebrew School. Mr. Braverman was a leading figure in the construction of the present synagogue building. Mrs. Braverman was a member of the Sisterhood, Hadassah and Jewish Pioneer Women, among other organizations.

Mr. Braverman died in 1953, and Mrs. Braverman later lived in Des Moines and Chicago before moving to Tulsa in 1962.

She was a resident of the Tulsa Jewish Retirement Center for the past 15 years and led an active life. Mrs. Braverman was a member of Temple Israel in Tulsa.

She enjoyed a variety of interests, but her devotion to family dominated her life. Even in her latter years she kept up with events of family members far and wide and remembered every birthday and other anniversary. She was a prolific letter writer.

Survivors include two daughters, Annette (Norman) Dunitz of Tulsa and Marlene Garfin of Los Angeles; a son, Marvin (Kay) Braverman of Des Moines; six grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
