Father Peter Cross, 82, of 2220 10th Avenue, died Thursday, June 10, 2004 at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center following an extended illness.

Fr. Cross was born July 19, 1921 in New York, New York, the son of Martin and Elizabeth Ann Gollaghly Cross. He served in the US Navy during World War II and in the Korean Conflict, receiving the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with five stars, the Presidential Unit Citation Medal and Good Conduct Medals. Fr. Cross received his Masters Degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from Columbia University, New York City. He graduated from Mt. St. Bernard Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. He was ordained in Dubuque on January 30, 1960, in the Archdiocese of Dubuque.

Fr. Cross served parishes in Dubuque, Anamosa, Waverly and Shell Rock, moving to Iowa City in 1970 where he assisted at St. Patrick’s Church and was Pastor at St. Joseph’s Church in Hills until his retirement.

He is survived by his siblings, Martin and Katie Cross of Westwood, New Jersey and Martha Landau of New York, New York and several nieces and nephews.

Fr. Cross was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew.
