Sandra J. Harney, 60, of 1141 Bay Circle, Nichols died Friday, August 13, 2004 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.

Sandra was born July 31, 1944 in Iowa City, the daughter of Harley and Dorothy Crawford Petru. She married James Harney on August 18, 1964 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. They would have celebrated their 40th anniversary this next Wednesday.

Sandra was a graduate of West Liberty High School and had been employed at Sears for 25 years, retiring in 2002. She and her family lived in Iowa City many years, where they were members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. In 1989 they moved to Nichols where they were members of St. Mary’s Church, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, serving as its secretary for two years.

Sandra was a strong woman with a heart of gold and forgiving spirit. Her greatest joys in life were her children and grandchildren, and making people laugh and have a good time. She enjoyed gardening, fishing and birdwatching.

Sandra is survived by her husband Jim of Nichols; One Daughter, Shari Hudson and her husband John of Nichols; Two sons, Ken and his wife Stacy of West Liberty and Steve and his wife Lisa of Nichols and Mark Love, whom she treated like a son; Ten Grandchildren, Tyler, Ashley, Ashlyn, John James, Lindsey, Kaylee, Jared, Jeff, Hannah and Wyatt; her brother and sister-in-laws,
Leona and the late Francis, Marguerite and the late Vincent, Mary Ellen Dloughy and Milo, Paul and Betty, Ambrose Joe, Tom and Emily, Jim Clemen and the late Vivian,
Edmond and Joyce, David and Marianne, Pat and Jean, Virginia Ockenfels and Dan, Therese, Rosie Langenberg and Gene.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Cheryle.
