Eleanor Bohnsack, 74, of Walden Place in Iowa City, Iowa, died Sunday 11/20/05 at Windmill Manor after a brief illness.

Eleanor was born June 30, 1931 on the family farm in Grundy County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Harold and Dorothy (Rickert) Paton. She graduated from Hudson High School in 1949. She attended Iowa State Teachers College and graduated with a teaching degree in 1951, and later a BA in Education from UNI in 1975. On July 1, 1951, she married Lou Bohnsack in Hudson, Iowa.

Eleanor was a homemaker, first grade teacher, and later, became a House Director at the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority house at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

After being widowed in 1974, Eleanor’s spirit of adventure took her to many countries around the world. While on these excursions, she remained true to her dedication to education and teaching and shared her knowledge with students across the globe. She was especially proud of her Scottish Heritage and visited Scotland many times.

Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Jan Bohnsack of Coralville, Iowa, and her son, Jim Bohnsac, and his wife Bridget of Bolingbrook, IL. She is also survived by her sister, Kaye Humphry and her husband Ken of McKinleyville, CA., and her beloved cat, Annie.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2005 at 10:30 AM at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City.

Memorial donations may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church or the Johnson County Humane Society.
