Nile Lewis, 56, of 1906 13th Street, Coralville, died Wednesday May 3, 2006, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City following a sudden illness.

Nile was born June 28, 1949, in Des Moines, the son of Leon Warren and Beverly Jane Lewis. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1967 and attended Marshalltown Community College. He served in the US Army and was awarded the Bronze Star by US Congress for his valor in combat during the Vietnam War. On January 16, 1981, Nile married Carolyn Lunde in Iowa City.

Nile was the patient transportation coordinator at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where he was employed for 25 years.

Nile was truly one of a kind. Those who knew him appreciated his great sense of humor. Nile loved golfing, cooking, computers, and most of all, his family. He will be greatly missed.

Nile is survived by his wife of 25 years, Carolyn; three children, Michelle (Keith) Hasner of Lakeville, MN, Stacy Lewis of Savage, MN, and Jodi (Joe) Hoelsken of Denver, CO; three grandchildren, Shayne, Alyson and Michael Hasner; his mother, Jane (John) Carpenter of Charles City; two brothers, Mark (Cindy) Lewis of San Clemente, CA, and Rob (Jodee) Lewis of Mission Viejo, CA; three sisters, Beth (Rod) Wilson of Nashua, IA, Kim (Ralph) Hennessy of New Hampton, IA, and Kris Lewis of Osage, IA and many nieces and nephews.

Nile was preceded in death by his father, Warren.
