Daniel L. “Dan” Haaf, 55, of 1728 Rochester Avenue in Iowa City, died suddenly Thursday, August 10, 2006 at Mercy Hospital.

Dan was born September 30, 1950 in Forest City, Iowa, the son of Chuck & Marian (Prohaska) Haaf. He graduated from Waterloo Columbus High School and attended Worthington Community College (MN.) and the University of Iowa. He married Mary Finn June 3, 1972 in Waterloo. The couple then moved to Iowa City where Dan operated his own construction and design companies in the Iowa City and surrounding area for 25 years. He most recently was employed with Lowe’s in Coralville.

Dan was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Iowa City where he served as a Eucharistic minister. He coached Iowa City Girl’s Softball for 14 years – which included his daughter’s teams. Dan was a very loving, humble, sincere and selfless man.

Survivors include his wife Mary;
his daughters, Sarah Haaf of Iowa City and Stephanie Haaf (Jeff Donar), both of Iowa City;
his grandson, Finnan Haaf;
Dan’s mother, Marian Haaf of Waterloo,
brothers, Nick (Holly) Haaf of Southlake, Texas and Ted (Becky) Haaf of Blaine, Minnesota;
sisters, Sherry Haaf (Betty Edwards) of Minneapolis, Linda (Ben) Hobson of Castroville, California, Laurie (Dan) Dimond of Maplewood, Minnesota and Peggy (Steve) Schmidt of Denver, Iowa;
sisters in law, Annette (Allen) Benson of Waterville, Minnesota, Nancy (Jim) Nie of Madison, Wisconsin and
Teri (Andy) Carlon of Oklahoma City;
brothers in law, Tim Finn (Susan) of Okee, Wisconsin, Mike Finn of Iowa City and Kevin (Karyn) Finn of Hudson, Iowa;
Dan’s mother in law, Helen Finn of Waterloo
and many nieces and nephews.

Dan was preceded in death by his father Chuck and a brother David.
