Juanita A. Hinchliffe, 90, died on Friday, November 18, in Draper, Utah, of causes incident to age. She had moved to Draper, near Salt Lake City, nearly 5 years ago with her daughter and son-in-law (Patricia and Merle Berry) and had resided in an assisted living facility the past 4 years.
Juanita was born February 16, 1916 in Chicago, IL to Mayme (Bosler) and Alvaro Huff. As a child, she lived in Chicago, IL, Tavares, FL and Iowa City, IA. She married Clyde Hinchliffe on April 19, 1939 in Iowa City. They made their first home in Rock Island, IL and later moved to Richfield, MN, where they both worked for newspapers, he as a photoengraver/lithographer at the St. Paul Dispatch Pioneer Press, and she as the circulation manager at the weekly Richfield News. They also worked as a team photographing many events in and around Richfield.
They retired in 1983 to Ocala, FL, where they had vacationed often over the years, and enjoyed fishing, cruises, and a warm circle of friends. After Clyde's death in 1992, Juanita remained in Ocala until 1999 when she moved to Madison, WI to be closer to family. Juanita volunteered at Marion Community Hospital and Hospice of Marion County in Ocala, FL, Independent Living and Oakwood Village, in Madison, WI, and CareSource Hospice in Salt Lake City, UT. She was an accomplished knitter and bingo-player.
Juanita is survived by her son, Harold Hinchliffe and daughter-in-law Leslie of Fridley, MN, daughter Patricia Berry, son-in-law Merle, and granddaughter Amelia Emery of Salt Lake City, UT, grandson Vincent Hinchliffe, his wife Tiffany, and great-grandson Cash of Biwabik, MN, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Margaret (Hinchliffe) and George Maxey of Iowa City. In addition to her parents and husband, Juanita is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lisa Marie Hinchliffe.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2006 2PM at the Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Friends may call an hour before the service. Internment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. .
The family wishes to warmly thank the staff of the Wentworth Assisted Living Facility in Draper, Utah. You all became an important extension of our family. We also wish to extend deep gratitude to Kris Espinoza, RN, BSN, and Cherie Brunker, MD for working so hard to optimize mom’s quality of life.
