The life of Elaine King will be celebrated in a “Celebration of Elaine” to be held Saturday, January 27th at 1:00 PM at Lensing’s Oak Hill in Coralville. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Elaine’s name. For further information, contact the Iowa City Community Theatre office between 10:00 am and 1:00 PM weekdays (338-0443).
Elaine was a long-time member of the Iowa City Community Theatre and a long-time employee of ACT. Everyone is invited to come and share stories of Elaine as part of the celebration of her life. A reception will follow the celebration.

Martha Elaine King passed away on November 24, 2006 at 11:10pm. She was born on June 2, 1924, in the town of Gillette, Wyoming, to John Louis Wood and Evelyn Mae Wood. The family moved to Sheridan, Wyoming, in her early years, where Elaine was nurtured by her mother and close relatives following the divorce of her parents. Elaine attended school in Sheridan, graduating from high school in 1941 as an honor student. Following graduation, she worked at various jobs before enrolling at Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, receiving her BS in Education in 1950, also with honors. She married Robert King in 1956 and taught at the high-school level for a short time, moving to Iowa City soon thereafter. She and Bob were divorced some time later. Elaine was employed at ACT in the editorial department, taking an early retirement for medical reasons. She was active in the Iowa City Community Theatre for many years, both as a director and acting in major roles in several productions.

Elaine is survived by her sister, Evelyn Juroshek, niece, Judi Harper and family of Washington State, her step-mother, Wilma Wood, of Missouri. Her brother, Bill, was killed in the Korean
