Kathleen Diane Strabala, 58, of Iowa City died Wednesday, April 4, 2007
at Mercy Hospital following a sudden illness.

Kathie was born December 28, 1948, in Iowa City, the eldest child of Robert and Letha
Villhauer Hein. She was a 1967 graduate of Regina High School, and had received her nursing degree from Kirkwood Community College. On June 10, 1978 she married
Larry Strabala in Iowa City.

Kathie was a longtime, dedicated nurse in the cardiology department at UIHC. She began her career in health care as a student volunteer while still in high school. Kathie was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and an investment club with her sisters.

Kathie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who cherished the time spent with family and friends. She loved to bake and quilt.

Kathie is survived by her husband Larry and their sons, Doug Strabala, Jason (Rhonda) Waters and their son, Nolan , and Matt Strabala, all of Iowa City; fourteen brothers and sisters, Terry (Jim)Delaney of Coralville, Mike (Deb) Hein of Libertyville, IL., Becky (Jerry) Hora of Iowa City, Mark (Jane) Hein of Clive, Tom (Mary Ellen) Hein, Mary (Art) Kistler, Marnie (Rod) Kuenster, all of Iowa City, Barbara (Michael) Hebl of West Branch, Jeanette Comorski of Churchill, TN., Shirley (Paul) Ahern of Marengo, Beverly (Jeff) Valasek of Omaha, NE., David (Terri) Hein of Iowa City, Jim (Julie) Hein of Fairfax, and Larry (Nancy) Hein of Peoria, AZ.; six brother and sister-in-laws, Mary Connelly of Anamosa, Lois Armbruster of Riverside, Eileen Armbruster of Iowa City, Rita (Leo) Dull of Oregon, Jim Strabala and Moe (Marjorie) Strabala, both of Richmond; and 58 nieces and nephews.

Kathie was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Elizabeth; grandparents, Paul and Theresa Hein and Louie and Minnie Villhauer.
