Dr. Stephen S. Fox, July 15, 1933-May 31, 2007, died suddenly on May 31, 2007.

Stephen was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grand father. He received his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1955, a M.A. in Physiological Psychology from the University of Michigan in 1957, and a Ph.D. in Physiological Psychology from the University of Michigan in 1960. He spent his academic career at the University of Iowa in Psychology from 1965-1997. Stephen was recognized with an Excellence in Teaching Award in 1969. Stephen spent his life devoted to teaching and believed that good teaching was a gift. He spent his retirement continuing to teach others and giving to others through his volunteer activities. He was a master instructor of Chanoyu Japanese Tea Ceremony. Stephen was a practicing Zen Buddhist and an active volunteer at the Iowa City Zen Center. He volunteered several times per week teaching French at Pats Learning Adventure and preparing meals as the Guest Chief at the LIFE Skills, Evening Club Program. Stephen actively volunteered at the Crisis Center Food Bank and Table to Table. He was proud to participate in the process of interviewing students from local High Schools who were applying for the University of Pennsylvania. Stephen enjoyed spending time at his farm, stone carving, practicing tea ceremony, writing poetry, sailing, cooking, gardening, producing ceramics, and spending time with his family. He made a tremendous impact on the lives of many people and was dearly loved. He is survived by his wife Cathy of Iowa City, four children; Adam (June) of Springville, UT, Ethan (Meghan), Gillian Fox (Charles Fox), and Soren, all of Iowa City, a sister; Natalie Silverstone of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, eight grandchildren; Aurora, EmmaLee, Noelle, Hanna, Blakeslee, Tiarnan, Nicole Beckley (Rick) and Amanda.

Stephen was preceded in death by his parents.
