Anna M. Leeney, 96, formerly of North Liberty, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at the Hiawatha Care Center following a short illness.

Anna was born May 14, 1911 in Johnson, Iowa, the daughter of Martin & Magdalene (Kubovec) Bezdek. Growing up in Colfax, she attended Kirkwood, Iowa State University and Cornell College - later receiving her teaching degree from Coe College. She was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Church in Colfax. Anna married Leonard F. Leeney July 20, 1955 in Walford, Iowa. She was an elementary school teacher for 38 years. Following her retirement, she worked in the dietary department at the Oakdale Campus for 8 years.

Surviving are nieces and nephews, including Linda Berry of Cedar Rapids and William Berry of Guatemala.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband, a sister Lillian Berry and a brother William Bezdek.

Her family wishes to thank the staff at the Hiawatha Care Center for the care given to Anna for the past 10 years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Hiawatha Care Center or a charity of ones choice. Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City is handling arrangements.
