Jack A. Pedigo, 81, of Iowa City, Iowa, died peacefully of cancer on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, at the Solon Care Center surrounded by his family.

Jack was born October 3, 1926, in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of Elmer and Louesa Latham Pedigo. Jack was a graduate of Monmouth High School and served with great pride in the US Navy in the Pacific during World War II. He married the love of his life Mardelle Cook on June 17, 1949. Mardelle died in 2003.

Jack was a US Postal Carrier for 36 years delivering mail first in Monmouth, Illinois, and then in rural Alexis, Illinois. Following his retirement in 1988, he and Mardelle moved to Iowa City. In 1998, they moved to Green Valley, Arizona, where they had enjoyed previous winters. In 2001, they returned to Iowa City. Jack had most recently lived at Legacy Independence Ridge, prior to moving to Solon this past August.

Jack is survived by his two daughters, Lynette Lancial and her husband, Bill, of Iowa City and their daughters, Jaclyn and Natalie; and Jill Pedigo Hall of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin and her children, Nash and Anna. Jack is also survived by three siblings, Hollis Pedigo of Oakdale, California, Harold (Ruth) Pedigo of Monmouth, Illinois and Betty Grove of Naples, Florida and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and five siblings, George Pedigo, Gwen Walker, Mary Armstrong, Robert Pedigo, and Toncey Pedigo. Those who knew Jack will remember him as a happy man who loved his family above all else.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.
