HENRYSON, CARPENTER, WATSON, YOUNGBERG, GOLDSMITH, PALZKILL, ASKELSON

Max H. Henryson was born to Martin and Luttie (Carpenter) Henryson on six-six-eleven, as he liked to say, in Story City, Iowa. He grew up with his brother and sister on the family farm.

He won state and national awards for showing both sheep and himself. He was a Farm House Fraternity graduate from Iowa State University in 1938, and on an oil tanker in the Pacific in WWII. He married Bobbie Watson in 1941, moving to Corning, IA, in 1959 after working in Winterset, Leon, and Bedford. He spent 33 years serving farmers as a FHA Administrator.

Our proud Norwegian will live on in his trees, wit, stories, and our hearts. He’s off to his next great adventure at U of I Medical School; we only wish he could be a more active participant. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Sara Henryson, 1023 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City, IA, 52240, and we will send them to the hospice program at the Iowa State Penitentiary (Not tax deductible), or plant a tree anywhere (you can call it Max) but TAKE CARE OF IT! We will miss him desperately, but he said he was tired. Please join us at Bickford Cottage in Iowa City, on Thursday, February 14, at 1:00 P.M. to celebrate his life.

Max is survived by two children; Judy Youngberg of Osage Beach, MO, Sara Henryson (Gordon Goldsmith) of Iowa City, two grandchildren; Kel Youngberg (Dawn) of Bluegrass, IA and Leslie Palzkill (Jim) of Dewit, IA, six great grandchildren.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son-in-law Gus Youngberg and two siblings; Lloyd Henryson and Judith Askelson.
