Francis “ Frank” Hradek, 74, of Iowa City died peacefully Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Francis, better known to friends as Frank, was born July 12, 1933 in Iowa City, the son of Edward and Anna Neuzil Hradek. He was a 1951 graduate of City High School. In 1952 he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Japan until his discharge in 1956.

He was employed by the US Postal Service in Iowa City from 1962, until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Church, Marquette Council #842 Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post #7.

Francis was an avid golfer and special uncle. He had a deep faith and unending love for family and friends. He will be missed by many, but lives on in our hearts forever.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jane; one sister, Genevieve Wombacher of Iowa City; 19 nieces and nephews; 24 great nieces and nephews, and numerous great-great nieces and nephews; sister and brother-in-laws, Jean and Lynn Faaborg and “Boys” and Greg and Cindy Nicholson and Thomas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Miyoko; one brother, Lawrence; three sisters, Mary Kabela, Helen Wombacher and Dorothy Chmielski;and his beloved Chihuahua, Chiisai Bandit.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
