Vernona “Nona” M. Rodman, 84, of Iowa City died Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Mercy Hospital.

Nona was born November 25, 1923 in Elliott, Iowa, the daughter Edgar and Marie Karns Vernon. She was raised and educated in Monticello. On September 20, 1947 Nona married Loran Rodman, a WWII Air Force Pilot. Loran died August 24, 1989.

Nona and Loran moved to Iowa City in 1947. She was employed for over 31 years at the University of Iowa Library, retiring in 1987.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star and enjoyed traveling and golf.

Nona is survived by her son-in-law, Michael Burger of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; two grandsons, Jason Burger of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Benjamin Burger of San Diego, CA; and one sister, Vernita Schafer of Monticello.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, art collector Deborah Lynn Burger and one sister, Sarah Springer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous.
