Dorothy Jean Seelmann, 69, of Iowa City died Saturday June 28, 2008 at Oaknoll Retirement Residence of Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Dorothy was born on March 31, 1939 in Iowa City to Leo J. and Viola (Kron) Seelmann. She graduated from University High School in 1957 and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. Dorothy worked as a legal secretary for 27 years and a real estate management secretary for 22 years. Dorothy was a member of the American Business Woman’s Association and the Johnson County Legal Secretaries Association and had passed the Professional Legal Secretary Exam.

Dorothy had traveled to many places, including Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Canada, Nova Scotia, and Hawaii. She enjoyed square dancing, trying new recipes in her kitchen, collecting cookbooks, art books, paintings, pictures and dolls. Dorothy had a large collection of Hummel figurines from Germany; Anri Wooden Carvings form Italy, and paperweights.

Dorothy is survived by her brother John H. Seelman of Iowa City, three aunts, Marie Ruth of Riverside, Lavina Wollrab or Ainsworth, and Freda Kron of Riverside.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents.
