Irene Elizabeth McGrew, 96, of Iowa City, died Monday June 8, 2009 at Iowa City Rehabilitation Nursing Center. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday June 12, 2009 at the Altona Cemetery in Altona, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City or to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona.

Irene was born on October 23, 1912 in Galva, IL to Knute and Elizabeth (Palmer) Youngberg. She was raised and attended school in Galva. She married LeRoy Edwin McGrew on February 21, 1936. They farmed in Galva and Oneida, IL until 1979 when they moved to Iowa City. Irene was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona for many years, and was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City.

Irene is survived by her husband LeRoy, two children; LeRoy (Carol) of Unionville, MO, Ann Gray (David) of Iowa City, five grandchildren; Clark McGrew (Lynette), Laura McGrew Gobber (Scott), Andrew McGrew (Savanna), Emily Cremers (Spencer), Megan Tucker (Paul); seven great-grandchildren; Addison, Ansel, Lucy, Rylan, Zachary, Abigail, Truman.

She was preceded in death by her four siblings: Charlotte (Mrs. Ted Sults), Norma (Mrs. Dwane Ekstedt), Ivan, and Norris Youngberg.
