Katherine Elizabeth Walker, a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend, died Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, after a brief battle with breast cancer. She was 63.

Born in 1945 in Indianapolis, Ind., Kathy spent most of her childhood in Akron and graduated from Old Trail School in 1963. She earned her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Western College in Oxford, Ohio and a master’s degree in microbiology from The University of Akron. She also did graduate work in public health at Tulane University in New Orleans.

Kathy enjoyed her laboratory work in the biological sciences first at Creative Biology Laboratories in Norton, Ohio and later in the departments of pathology at Tulane and at the University of Iowa, where she retired in 2001.

Preceded in death by her husband, David Lady, Kathy is survived by her parents, Dr. Lewis H. and Charlotte Walker; brothers Christopher (Shelley), Curtis (Laura) and Andrew; sister Gretchen (Thomas) Flynn; special brothers and sisters Dr. Rajeev and Neeta Kishore; Rakesh and Rupal Mehra; Manish and Becky Kapur; nieces Molly Flynn, Dr. Sonal (Chris) Moratschek, Alexandra and Erica Walker, and Neha Ann Kapur; nephews Peter Flynn, Sameer Kishore, Mitchell Walker, Arjun and Krish Mehra, and Nemi Kapur; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins who will miss her.

Cremation and private family remembrances have taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to any favorite charity.
