Violet L. Nelson, 97, of Windmill Manor in Coralville and formerly of Iowa City, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 6 at Lensing Funeral Home, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City. Visitation will be from 1pm until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.

Violet was born on August 15, 1911 in Tipton, IA, the daughter of Lyle and Annis (Albaugh) Morden. She attended Iowa City schools and later married Earl Nelson in Washington, IA on June 28, 1934. Violet spent her life as a homemaker. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She was passionate about golf and also loved to quilt, sew and cook.

Violet is survived by her daughter Donna (Elwyn) Etchen of Clear Lake, IA and their two sons David of Minneapolis, MN and Robert of Laguna Nigel, CA, a sister Betty Campbell of Kalona, IA and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her three sisters Ruth Ginkens, Frances Kohl and Gladys Morden.
