Paul Marshall Fischer, 65, of University Heights, Iowa City died Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at his home.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held for Paul on Tuesday, October 28th at 11:00 am at Ms Susan’s, 1215 Jordan Street, North Liberty. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Davenport at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The National Kidney Foundation if desired. Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting with the arrangements.

Paul was born April 16, 1943, in Ottumwa, Iowa to John Edward Fischer and Alice Georgia (Hamann) Fischer. Paul graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1961 and later attended college at Iowa State University and at The University of Iowa. Paul lived most of his life in Iowa City.

Paul was employed by the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for 18 years, retiring in 1998 after receiving a kidney transplant. During retirement Paul was self employed in accounting consulting for small businesses. Prior to working for the university, Paul worked five years for Sweeting’s Flowers which became Sueppel’s Flowers. In the late 60s and early 70s Paul worked for Montgomery Wards and Kenny Shoes.

Paul was an avid reader with special interest in the history of business, economics and history in general. He was a life long collector of stamps and enjoyed attending family gatherings.

Those left to honor his memory are his sister Peggy Fischer Betts of Hayward, California, cousins, aunts and an uncle. He was preceded in death by his parents.
