Oscar Emmanuel Johnson ,87, of Iowa City, Iowa, died Sunday, August 17, 2008 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Oscar was born on September 27, 1920, the 7th of 8 children born to Norwegian immigrants Nels and Lena Johnson in Wolbach, NE. He graduated from St. Paul, NE High School, Dana College and Trinity Seminary in Blair, NE. He was ordained as a Lutheran pastor in 1947 and served as a beloved pastor of Salem, Brooklyn, NY; English, Avoca, IA; Northwest Trinity, Detroit, MI; Immanuel, Harlan, IA; St. John, Carnegie, PA, and Cedar Falls Lutheran Home in Cedar Falls, IA.

On June 12, 1950, he married Dolores (Dody) Jensen who survives him. Other survivors include sons David (Michele) of Lawrence, KS; Paul (Liz) of Fremont, NE; Andy (Kathy Gerking) of Iowa City, and daughter Julianne (Judy Pollock) of Columbus, OH, grandchildren Nathan, Kristina, Anna, Aaron, Jason and Jeremy, one brother, Harold of Oklahoma City, OK, and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by sisters Anna, Margaret and Ruth, and brothers Emil, Adolph and John.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to Dana College in Blair, NE or Lutheran World Relief in Baltimore, MD.
