Mike McCabe, 58, of Walnut died Thursday of cancer at his sister’s home in Iowa City.

Memorial Services to celebrate Mike’s life will be at 1pm, Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the American Legion Hall in Walnut, Iowa. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.

Mike was born June 4, 1950 in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Paul and Katherine Kelly
McCabe. Mike grew up around Storm Lake and was a graduate of Albert City High School. He received is BA degree from Buena Vista College and had served in the National Guard.

Mike was a math teacher at Walnut High School for over 28 years, retiring in 2003.
He was the girls softball coach at Walnut High School, and also was a basketball referee.

Survivors include his brother and four sisters, William (Kathy) McCabe of Storm Lake, Jean (Dr. Robert) Wayne of Cannon Beach, OR, Pat (Douglas) Brown of North Liberty and Coleen (Jack) Schmillen of Iowa City; nieces and nephews, Shannon (Bradley) Strand, Will (Janae) Brown, Meghan McCabe, Mollie McCabe, Mitchell McCabe, Michael McCabe, Baizhu Schmillen, Mara Strand and Nevada Youssey; and all his friends in Walnut.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kelly Meike.
