Mabel A. Davis, 99, of 701 Oaknoll Drive died January 21, 2009 at Oaknoll Health Center following a long illness. She was cremated and a private burial will be held at a later date at the Welsh Pioneer Cemetery. There will be no memorial service since Mabel considered the prayers, thoughts, cards, flowers, calls, visits and so many kindnesses of family and friends a celebration of her life. Memorials may be given to Iowa City Hospice or the Welsh Pioneer Cemetery Fund. Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mabel was born February 16, 1909 in Johnson County to William L. and Stella (Fry) Rowland. She graduated from Iowa City High School in 1927. She taught in rural schools for nine years and was a homemaker.
She married Carl D. Davis, June 18, 1930 at her parents’ home near Iowa City. He died May 10, 1981. She was a member of the Welsh Congregational Church and a former member of the Missionary Society and former member of the Iowa City Woman’s Club for many years. She did volunteer work over the years.
She is survived by a sister-in-law Blanche (Mrs. Russell Wolfe) and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Lloyd Rowland and three sisters Gertrude Hill, Harriet Weeber and Mary Kesseling.
