Services:A Celebration of JoAnne’s Life will be held Tuesday at 2:00 pm at Lensing’s Oak Hill, with Reverend Judy Gingerich officiating. Burial will be private.
Visitation:Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Lensing’s Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Road in Coralville.
JoAnne L. Halvorsen, 81, of 718 9th Avenue in Coralville, passed peacefully Friday evening in her home surrounded by her loving family and husband of 62 years, Bill.

She was born June 24, 1927 in Amana, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Blanche Jindrich.
She graduated from Conroy High School and married the love of her life, William J. Halvorsen on June 20, 1946 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. In 1976, JoAnne received her LPN degree from Kirkwood Community College at the age of 49. She worked as a nurse at Greenwood Manor in Iowa City and Windmill Pointe in Coralville, retiring in 2001.

JoAnne loved to be surrounded by her children & grandchildren. She enjoyed singing, playing the piano and the accordion, and she was a master seamstress. One of her favorite past times was fishing and vacationing with her loving husband, Bill, whom she affectionately called “Willie.”

It was Joanne’s tremendous strength and faith in the Lord that was an inspiration to all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband William of Coralville; her children, John (Cindy) Halvorsen of South Carolina, Barb Roberts (Mike) of Oxford, Bob Halvorsen of Coralville,
Judy (Bob) Coates of Arkansas, Joan Barr of Coralville and Polly Riggan of Oxford;
her grandchildren, Johnny (Cheryl) Halvorsen of South Carolina, Sonja (Steve) Saturday of South Carolina, Chad Halvorsen of South Carolina, Stephanie (Jeremy) Sports of North Carolina, Brian Halvorsen of Cedar Rapids, Amy Coates and Anna Coates, both of Arkansas, Linzee Barr of Coralville, Ashlee (Ryan) Stigers of Homestead, Chelsey (Brandon) Speers of Oxford, Emily Riggan of Oxford and Jamie Halvorsen (Dion Young) of North Liberty;
great-grandchildren, Hannah, Kelsey, Johnny, Alyssa, Drew, Breanna, Steven, Brittany, Joey, Katie, Jordan and Kirsten.

JoAnne was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Mame Stein and Blanche VanScoyoc, brother, Bill Jindrich and a daughter, Jeanette Marie Halvorsen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a fund established to benefit the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics Dialysis Unit.
