Services:Private services are planned. Mary chose to be cremated. Burial of cremains will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City.
Visitation:
Mary E. Cornwall, 78, of Iowa City, passed Tuesday Dec. 16, 2008 in her home with family by her side after a long illness.

Mary was born September 21, 1930 in Iowa City, the daughter of Elma (Gilster) and Axel Werner. She married Leland Cornwall November 6, 1948. Mary was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Iowa City. She retired from the University of Iowa Clinical Research Center where she had worked for many years.
Mary was cared for by Iowa City Hospice the last months of her life and in lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice, 1025 Wade Street, Iowa City, Iowa, 52240.
Survivors include her two daughters, Linda (Gary) Thomae-Recker of Cedar Rapids and Jan (Bill) Harney of Oxford, one son, Leland Dale Cornwall Jr. of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two sisters, Marjorie Salisbury of Coralville and Shirley McCune of Williamsburg; two granddaughters, Melanie (Greg) Schnetzler of Bristow, Virginia and Jennifer (Justin) Broich of Iowa City. Mary has four great- grandchildren, Ariel, Olivia, Waverly Kate, and Jackson. She also had a special grand-dog named Gracie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a sister Alice Gilmore
