Services:A Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 10:30 am at Christ The King Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Visitation:The family will greet friends Saturday from 9:00 until 10:30 at Christ The King Lutheran Church, 325 Mormon Trek Blvd in Iowa City.
Irene M. Geuder, 82, of 1484 Valley View Drive in Coralville, died Monday, February 9, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City from cancer.

Irene was born May 24, 1926 in Mederville, Iowa, the daughter of Wilbur and Pearl (Kelly) Peake. Graduating from Elkader High School and received her bachelor of arts degree in teaching from Upper Iowa University. She taught rural school prior to her marriage to
Merlin Geuder on February 13, 1945 in Guttenberg. The couple moved to Coralville in 1978. Irene and Merlin are members of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Iowa City, where Irene
was very active. Irene volunteered at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics for many years, accumulating over 7400 volunteer hours. Her gift and passion was to work with terminally ill patients and their families, counseling them, comforting them and at times, opening up her home to families of terminally ill patients.

Survivors include her husband Merlin; a son, Dennis Geuder of Greensboro, North Carolina,
and a brother in law, Willard Morarend of Dubuque, Iowa.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, two daughters, Diane Geuder and Janet Geuder and a sister, Lois Morarend.
