Services:Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am Monday, February 16, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Sam Massey officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. ill be held at 5:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church or Iowa City Hospice.
Visitation:Friends may call Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. A Masonic service will be held at 5:30 pm Sunday.

Richard L. Van Duyn, 89, of 3423 Tulane Ct. died Thursday, February 12, 2009 at home following a brief illness.

Richard was born July 30, 1919 in Waterloo, Iowa, the oldest son of Vernon and Nana (Leonard) Van Duyn. He was raised on the family farm in Blackhawk County and graduated from Orange Consolidated High School and later attended business college. Richard was very proud of his service in the US Air Force during WWII. On December 6, 1945 Richard married the love of his life, Joyce Evans in Wolverhampton, England.

Richard was a communication technician for AT&T and Northwestern Bell for 42 years, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 52 years, Iowa City Masonic Lodge #4, AF and AM, Iowa City Shriners, KAABA Temple of Davenport and the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. He was also a member of the Pioneers and BAD 2, his WWII English Airbase Group. Richard and Joyce loved to travel and often wintered in Florida and Arizona. Their airstream group, Wally Byan Caravan Club International, took them to every state in the U.S.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Joyce and their four children: Susan Van Duyn Cross of West Des Moines, John ( Jody) Van Duyn of Scottsdale, AZ, Bill (Cheryl) Van Duyn of Naples, FL, and Christopher (Grace) Van Duyn of Canyon Country, CA; nine grandchildren, Heather (Jay) Agnew, Matthew (Mandy) Cross, Amy Van Duyn, Barry Van Duyn, Staci Van Duyn, Lindsey (Tim) Poindexter, Morgan and Lily Van Duyn, and Chelsea Van Duyn.
Richard has five great-grandchildren, Trevor and Meghan Agnew and Gavin, Zachary and Noah Cross. Richard is also survived by his brother, George (Mary) Van Duyn of Idaho Springs, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two siblings, Ruth Gade and Robert Van Duyn
