James LUTZ, 78, of Lone Tree, died Thursday, September 22, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, following a short illness.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sorden's Funeral Home in Lone Tree. The Rev. George NEAL officiated. Burial was in Lone Tree Cemetery.

Mr. LUTZ was born March 9, 1905 in Johnson County, the son of Frank and Mary Ellen BILLICK LUTZ. He married Velda JARRARD on March 20, 1937 at Quincy, Illinois. He was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ron of Des Moines and Daryl of Lone Tree; one daughter, Mrs. Stephen (Joyce) MURDOCK of Perry; six grandchildren; one brother, Paul LUTZ of Conesville; one sister Nettie BERVEN, of Iowa City; and one half sister, Zella BATES of Appleton, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
