Kenneth J. Muller, 85, of Hills, IA died Thursday, December 4, 2008 at the VA Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Monday, December 8, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hills, IA. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island. Reverend Louis Leonhardt will officiate. Visitation will be from 1-4 pm Sunday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Ave, Iowa City, where a vigil service will begin at 4:00 p.m. There will be a visitation from 9-10 am Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Hills First Responders in Kenneth’s name.

Kenneth was born on March 24, 1923 in Riverside, IA to Edward A. and Edna (Roberts) Muller. Kenneth was in the United States Army and served with the 775 Tanker Division during WWII in the Pacific Fleet. Kenneth married Hazel Fox on June 12, 1947 in Iowa City, IA. He worked at the University of Iowa Dental School in Dental Support for 32 years. Kenneth was a volunteer at the Senior Center and the UIHC and was a former President of UI Local 12 Union. He was named Citizen of the Year in Hills for developing Congregate Meals. He was a member of the Hills Town & Country Club. Kenneth loved spending time with his family and following his grandchildren’s activities.

Kenneth is survived by his four children -- Mary Jane Bowman (Thomas) of Iowa City, Thomas (Belinda) of Atkins, Jon (Dawn) of Marshalltown, Patrick of Hills; eleven grandchildren: Brian (Shantel) & Jeff Bowman, Elizabeth Bunker (Jason), and Tim, Meg, Kelly, Kayla, Jordan, Tyler, Trevor, & Trenton Muller; and four great-grandchildren: Elizabeth and Nicolas Bowman , Abigail and Gabrielle Bunker, four siblings; LeRoy Muller (LaVera), Paul Muller (Joanne), Dorothy Stumpf and Rose Marie Rhodes.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hazel, two brothers; John and Robert and twin grand-daughters.
