George D. Hora, 70 of Oxford, died Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 24, 2008, at the Oxford United Methodist Church with the Reverend Diane Townsley officiating. Burial will be at the Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 7pm Sunday at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in George's memory. George Dewayne Hora was born August 19, 1938, in rural Johnson County, Iowa the son of George W. and Helen (Phillips) Hora. He was united in marriage to Sandy K. Madden on June 13, 1959, in Rock Island, IL. Their family moved to Oxford in 1961 at which time he started employment with Buck Hummer Trucking Company. He worked with them until his retirement in 2006. George was known for his strong work ethic, always willing to help out others, especially if it meant running his dozer! He enjoyed fishing, and spending time with his family.

His family includes his wife, Sandy; children, Becci Potter (Gary) of Amana; George Hora Jr. (Edith) of Iowa City; Mark Hora (Kim) of Oxford; and Cindy Hora of Oxford; 11 grandchildren, Breanne, Maddi, and Amber Potter; Jessica, Jessey, and Christine Hora; Beth, Mark Jr., Tim, and Bob Hora; and Jazmine Hora; two great-grandson, Chase and Chane Hora;
former daughter-in-law, Pam Hora of Oxford; sisters, Beverly Rickels of Lost Nation, Connie Railsback of Solon, and Rose Skriver of Iowa City; and his faithful companion, Precious!

George was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Matt Potter; and brothers, Donald and Robert Hora.
