Ruth Kingman Miller, 88, passed away on August 30, 2008. She was born Lola Ruth Kingman on January 16, 1920 on a sheep ranch near Bison, South Dakota to Irving H. and Cleo (Mennis) Kingman. She was the third of four children. One brother, Richard Kingman of Highlands Ranch, CO. survives her. Two other brothers, Robert and Charles, preceded her in death.
She went to school in a one-room schoolhouse in Wyndot, and later graduated from Rapid City High School. She attended South Dakota State, then nursing school at the University of Iowa. There she met her husband-to-be, Frederick Neal Miller. They married in Canton, MO on August 2, 1941. Neal passed away in 1999.
Ruth is survived by her four children and their spouses, Dick and Kerrie Miller, Jayne and Larry MacArthur, Susan DePrenger and Michael Suelzer and Kay Miller; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
For many years, Ruth worked as a nurse at the University Hospitals in Pediatrics, and the Diabetic and Pulmonary Allergy Clinics, retiring in 1985. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, a PEO member since 1987 (Chapter E), a member of Questers, and several church groups, including the quilters. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, crafts and especially spending time with her family and many friends. She will be deeply missed by all.
A memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m. Friday, September 5, 2008 at the First Christian Church in Coralville. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, 900 Lincolnshire Place at North Dubuque Street or Iowa City Hospice, 1025 Wade Street, Iowa City, IA 52240.
