Evan Carter, age 20 formerly of Iowa City died Monday, July 28, 2008, at his home in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 2, 2008, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, IA (1340 3rd. Avenue NE). Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm Friday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City; and one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Evan’s memory to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation www.jdrf.org or the American Diabetes Association www.diabetes.org . Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.net.

Evan Michael Carter was born November 9, 1987, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City the son of Keith D. and Cheryl D. (Perry) Carter. He attended Iowa City Schools, graduating from City High School with the class of 2006. Following high school he enrolled at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where this fall he would have been a junior pursuing a double major in Spanish and Economics.

Growing up he was a beautiful young boy, who loved fishing, motorcycles, video games, playing golf with family and friends. Evan was an avid reader and a mentor in the Community Mentor Program for Junior High students in Ann Arbor, MI. He enjoyed the Indianapolis 500 races, supporting University of Michigan sports, especially football and hockey, chatting with friends on Facebook and was active in the Black Student Association on campus.

His family includes his parents, Cheryl and Keith of Iowa City; sister, Erin Carter at home in Iowa City, grandparents, Elsie and Dan Payne of Madison, IN, and Pearlie Carter of Indianapolis, IN; many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and his beloved dog, Max.

Evan was preceded in death by his grandfathers, James O. Carter and James H. Perry.
