Nancy Pfieffer Towner, age 78 of 6 Fairview Knoll N.E., Iowa City died Thursday, January 2, 2003 at her home surrounded by nature, her art, and her loving family.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 6, 2003 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Mel Schlachter officiating. At her request her earthly remains have been given for the advancement of medical science through the University of Iowa. In lieu of flowers her family request memorial donations can be made in her memory through Trinity Episcopal Church in Iowa City.

Nancy Pfieffer was born September 17, 1924 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the daughter of Josef and Kathryn (Fry) Pfieffer. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1975. And after moving to this area, she attended the University of Iowa. She married Robert Vincent Towner August 4, 1947, in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. After raising their family, she and her husband moved to Iowa City in 1982. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Iowa City, the University Womens Club, National Pen and writer’s group, Alluvial.

Nancy Pfieffer Towner was an artist of many mediums and domains. From her paintings, poetry, sculpturing, writing or gardening, her passion and vigor for these were always present, She has shown her works in galleries in Iowa , Chicago, and New York, been published and recognized both locally and nationally for her many writings and works of poetry.

Her family includes her loving husband, Robert; four sons and their wives, Robert A. Towner and Helen, of Cape Girardeau, MO, Josef J Towner and Elyse Yasgur of Sandia Park, NM, William C. Towner and Cheryl of Tulsa, OK, and Mark A. Towner and Maria Cusaman of Andover, MA; sister, Marian Cornfeld of Langley, WA; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Nancy’s family and her arrangments.
