Delmar Glen Yoder was born in rural Kalona, the son of Frank D. and Elva Kauffman Yoder. He attended East Lincoln rural school. Delmar was baptized at Fairview Mennonite Church and later became a member of the Sunnyside Mennonite congregation where he was a faithful member until death. He served as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent and also on various committees.
Delmar and Susie Schlabach were united in marriage in the Fairview Church on June 15, 1952. He served two years in Hatfield, PA. in 1W service. The couple farmed in the Kalona community until retirement and after that Delmar was the maintenance manager of the Kalona Valley Apartments for 12 years. He endeared himself to the residents with his friendly, helpful manner. Delmar was always available to assist others. He sang with many church groups over the years and had a love of singing. He often served as a chorister. He enjoyed life and loved to visit.
Delmar is survived by his wife of 50 years, Susie, two brothers and their wives, L. David and Leona Yoder and Daniel and Amelia Yoder both of Kalona. Also surviving are two nephews, Leon Yoder and Lowell Yoder and one niece Jane (Del) Hershberger,
two great nieces, Katie Yoder and Nicole Hershberger, one great nephew, Michael Hershberger, three brothers-in-law and wives, Raymond Schlabach and Barbara, Perry and Virginia Schlabach, John and Velma Schlabach, and a sister-in-law, Leona Schlabach,
Preceding Delmar in death were his parents, an infant twin brother, a sister, Mary Yoder and a niece Carol Yoder.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to everyone who has extended prayers and love during Delmar’s illness and at this time of loss. Your many acts of kindness will be cherished always.
