John W. Beard, 90 of 3117 Juniper Drive, Iowa City died Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at Greenwood Manor in Iowa City.
Memorial services will be held at 10am Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Visitation with be after 9am Saturday until services. Memorial donations may be made to Iowa City Hospice or the Visiting Nurses Association. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com.
John Wallace Beard was born March 24, 1917, in Iowa City the son of Fred and Nellie (McNutt) Beard. He graduated from Sharon Center High School in 1935. In February of 1940 he married Thelma Wyjack who passed away in July, 1978. He married Betty Fisher in August, 1980. John worked at Linder Tire Company for thirty-one years.
His family includes his wife, Betty; son, David and Sue Beard of Vallejo, CA; daughter, Carole Pierce and son, Dennis Beard both of Iowa City; four grandchildren, Debbie Porter of California, Robert Pierce, Randy Pierce and Rick Pierce, all of Washington; nine great-grandchildren; four step-children, Janis and Ron Eastman of Elko, MN; Jack and Brenda Truelsen of Cedar Falls, IA; David and Sandy Truelsen of Gibbon, NE, Tammy and Joe Penny of Iowa City; eight step-grandchildren, Kelly and Scott Johnson of Rosemount, MN, Shannon and Wade Ingamels of Hudson, IA, Aaron Eastman of Elko, MN, Adam and Amy Penny of Denver, CO, Brandon and Shelly Penny of Ottumwa, IA, Matthew Eastman of Elko, MN, Michael and Tommy Truelsen of Cedar Falls, IA; eight step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ellen Rhodes of Ankeny, IA, Treva Rothenberg of Santa Ana, CA; sister-in-law, Shirley and Jack Hanson of Portland, OR; brothers-in-law, Lynn and Ayano Bush of Tacoma, WA, Bruce Hoff of Freeport, TX, Don Wyjack of Ft. Collins, CO and Merle Roth of Loveland, CO; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma; parents, three brothers, Fred, Paul, Donald and a sister, Evelyn Smith and many brothers-in law and sisters-in-law as well as one step-granddaughter.
John will be remembered as a very kind, good, caring man with never an unkind word in his body.
