Terry C. Funk, 62 of 719 S. First Avenue, Iowa City died Thursday, February 14, 2008, at his home from complications of Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS).
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2008, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with burial with military honors at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7pm Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Terry's memory to ALS division of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Terry Cletus Funk was born July 22, 1945, in Davenport, Iowa the son of C. Dave and Betty (Potter) Funk. He has lived in Iowa City his entire life, graduating from Iowa City City High School in 1964. Terry served in the Iowa National Guard for over six years. Thirty-seven years ago Terry starting working for Iowa-Illinois Gas & Electric Company, which is now Mid America Energy, where he was employed at the time of his death. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge No. 695 in Iowa City. Those that knew Terry knew his love for motorcycles, his quick wit, always pulling the prank, but always the first one there to help a friend or family member in need. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
His family includes his parents, Dave and Betty Funk of Iowa City; brother, Rick Funk and his wife, Kathy of Riverside; niece, Kari Schabilion and her husband, Abe of Riverside; nephew, David Funk of Iowa City; former wife, Patty Funk of Iowa City, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; his godson, Ethan Scheiber of Nichols, IA and his faithful companions, Hoss and Reba.
Terry's family would like to thank all who have shown their support and care at this time, special thanks to the Iowa City Police Department and Johnson County Medical Examiner's Office for their compassion shown at the time of Terry's death, we will always remember this.
