Irene Oakes 87, of Sedalia, MO., formerly of Oxford died Tuesday, January 22, 2008, at the Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center in Sedalia.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 26, 2008, at the Oxford Chapel of Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Oxford. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9am to services on Saturday. A memorial fund has been established in Irene's memory. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com.
Irene Eister Oakes was born July 22, 1920, in Iowa City, Iowa, daughter of Alfred and Gertrude Novak Eister . On November 15, 1942, she was married to Max Oakes, who preceded her in death May 7, 1996.
The couple moved to Missouri in 1956, where they farmed near Windsor. They late moved to Sedalia in 1969. Here she attended Parkview Christian Church. Irene enjoyed quilting, crocheting, doing crafts and bowling.
Her family includes two daughters, Bonnie Swopes of Sedalia, MO and Maxine Garrett of Camdenton, MO; one son, Dale E. Oakes of Sedalia, and one sister, Alyce Sullivan, Iowa City; and four grandchildren, Tim Garrett, Bruce Oakes, Chad McNeal, and Scott Hughes; and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Wyjack, one brother Harry Eister, two grandchildren, one step-grandchild and two great grandchildren.
