Velma M. Cox, 94 formerly of Iowa City died Saturday, December 15, 2007, at Atrium Village in Hills, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2007, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. There will be a time of visitation one hour prior to the services at the funeral home where a reception will be held after the services. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Velma's memory to Iowa City Hospice or Atrium Village of Hills. Velma Marie Frauenholz was born March 21, 1913, in rural Johnson County, Iowa the daughter of Frank and Lydia (Mincer) Frauenholz. On November 6, 1935, she married Charley C. Cox in Cedar Rapids. The couple has lived in this area all their lives. Charley died February 12, 2002. After Charley's death she moved to Legacy Pointe where she has lived until moving to Atrium Village this past year.
Her family includes two daughters and their husbands, Margaret and Lowell Weaver, and Doris and Ed Wilson all of Iowa City; grandchildren, Jeff Weaver and Chris Stilwell and her husband, Matt all of Iowa City; two great-grandchildren, Tavian and Nick Stilwell; Velma's brother and sister, Frank Frauenholz and Dorothy McArtor both of Iowa City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter, Debra Weaver; brother, Earl Frauenholz; and sisters, Agnes Frauenholz, Mary Frauenholz, and Irene Thomas.
