Lavona M. Meister, age 88 of 915th 20th. Avenue, Coralville died Friday, December 6, 2002 at Lantern Park Nursing Rehab Center in Coralville.

Funeral services will be held a 7pm Monday, December 9, 2002 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Marlene Janssen officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3pm Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 5 to 7pm Monday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Lavona was born March 11, 1914 the daughter of Edith and Lester Hines. She married Earnest E. Meister in 1934 in Manchester, Iowa. For several years, she was employed by the University Of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, while most of her life she cared for her family and home. Lavona loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for others; often making far more that was needed. Quilting and sewing were ways she could share her talents with so many others, many being the receiptants of her work. She had this obsession with collecting stuffed bears; you could see them where ever you looked in her home. And she was one who so loved the outdoors and wildlife.

Her family includes her daughter and her husband, Brenda L. and Dick Reeve of Iowa City; grandson and his wife, Michael E. and Dianne Reeve of Iowa City; two great-grandsons, James and Justin Reeve; and her sister, Eileen Schadey of Clinton, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, in 1962; son, Merrill D. Meister in the 1990’s, five brothers and five sisters.

Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Lavona’s family and her services.
