Glenn D. Van Horn, 90, of 1522 Rochester Avenue, Iowa City, died Friday, November 23, 2007, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 27, 2007, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with the Reverend Paul Akin officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be given to Mercy Hospital Foundation in Iowa City, c/o Skilled Nursing Care. Glenn Draper Van Horn was born February 17, 1917, in rural Runnells, Iowa, the son of Oliver and Anna (Draper) Van Horn. He graduated from Runnells High School and also attended business school and Army - Air Force Military School. On July 12, 1941, he married Helen Amanda Knutson in Omaha, NE. During WWII he served as a surgical technician with the Air Transport Command in the Caribbean Wing based in Florida.

His working career began in the family funeral business in the late 1930's. He then became associated with Montgomery Ward Company as a marketer and merchandiser working in Marshalltown, Clinton and later the Iowa City store. He retired as manager from Kirwin Furniture Company in Iowa City in 1991. Glenn had been a member of the First United Methodist Church for over fifty years and longtime member of the Iowa City Noon Optimist Club. As one of his hobbies, he enjoyed buying and selling antiques. But most of all, Glenn's family and friends meant the world to him!

His family includes his son, Steven Van Horn and wife, Katie Poduska of Mt. Vernon; granddaughters, Hillary Prall and husband, Chad of Marion; and Melanie Farr of Cedar Rapids; 6 grandchildren, Jacob, Jonah, and Hannah Prall; Elizabeth, Taylor, and Collin Farr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen; brother Guy Van Horn, and sister Blanche Bufkin.
