Dr. Stephen Herman Noel, 49, of Dakota Dunes, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at his residence. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.Stephen Herman Noel was born November 17, 1957, in Peoria Illinois, the son of Lee and Mary Spainhower Noel. He spent his childhood years in Deerfield, Illinois and Iowa City, Iowa. He graduated from City High School, Iowa City, and Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois. He completed medical school at the University of Iowa in 1984 and a residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1990. He spent one year in private practice in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan, before joining Northwest Iowa Orthopedics in 1992 and nurturing its growth into the current Center for Neurosciences, Orthopedics and Spine of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota.
Steve married the former Elisabeth Jones of Rockford, Illinois, on August 8th, 1981. They have three sons, Lee William, Andrew Paul, and Louis Herman. He was a member of the Woodbury Medical Society, the Iowa Orthopedic Society, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the North American Spine Society and Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sioux City, Iowa. He was active in his sons' sports organizations and Blessed Sacrament Boy Scout Troop 100.
Steve is survived by his wife, Beth, and their sons, all of Dakota Dunes, his parents Lee and Mary of North Liberty, Iowa, a brother Michael (Mary) of Iowa City and their children Todd and Kate, a sister Mary Lee (John) Williams of Cedar Rapids and their children John and Hilliary, a sister Patrice (John) Mittelstaedt of Clemson, South Carolina and their children Matthew and Marlow, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorials may be made in his name to: Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools Future Heelan Building Fund, Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, or the charity of your choice.
