Leanna Fern Nelson, 80, of 56 Pentire Circle, Iowa City, died Monday October 1, 2007 at her home. Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 pm Thursday October 4, 2007 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Ave, Iowa City with Reverend Deborah Lind-Schmitz officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City. There will be a gathering time from 12:30-1:30 at the funeral home on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Iowa City Hospice.

Leanna was born on October 14, 1926 on her family farm in Nobles County, MN to Jake and Tillie (Heidebrink) Rogers. She graduated from Worthington High School. She married Earl Nelson on May 15, 1947 in Reading, MN.

Leanna was a former member of the Iowa City Community School Board and the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was an artist who enjoyed watercolor painting and was an antique store owner.

Leanna is survived by her husband Earl of Iowa City, three children; Jay (Kirsten) of Austin, MN, Tom of North Liberty, Jody VanDuyn (John) of Scottsdale, AZ, six siblings; Melvin Rogers (Bonnie) of Reading, MN, Donald Rogers (Leola) of Brewster, MN, Evelyn Warren of Ft. Collins, CO, Jane Lutner of Worthington, MN, Loretta Hodgkinson (Harry) of Hayward, WI, Marilyn Koch (Bob) of Las Vegas, NV, five grandchildren; Amy and Barry VanDuyn, Emma, Owen and Davis Nelson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
