Doris Jean Mether, 89, of 1 Oaknoll Court, died Saturday, September 22, 2007 at Oaknoll Retirement Residence.

Memorial Services will be Tuesday, September 25 at 2pm at Oaknoll. Burial will be held at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Oaknoll Foundation. Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Iowa City.

Jean was born on August 6, 1918 in Red Oak, IA, the daughter of Rev. Frank and Mamie (Cable) Blakely. She was a 1935 graduate of Manly High School. She attended Iowa State Teachers College, now UNI, graduating in 1939. She taught business courses in Missouri Valley and Thompson, IA, and then moved to Cedar Falls where she became secretary to the president of UNI. On September 3, 1946, she married Cal Mether.

Jean taught business courses in the Iowa City School District. Prior to returning to Iowa City to reside at Oaknoll, Cal and Jean had lived in Independence, IA for many years.

Survivors include two daughters Susan Elaine Van Ravenswaay of Sturgis, MI and Mary Arim of Kalamazoo, MI; one sister Miriam Blakely of Iowa City and three grandchildren Aaron and Faye Van Ravenswaay and Ryan Pero. Jean was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
