MaryAnn (Montgomery) Herdliska, 83, formerly of Iowa City, died Tuesday, July 17th, 2007 in Plainview, Nebraska following a brief illness. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 20th, 2007 at St. Patrick’s Church with the Rev. Rudolph Juarez officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m., Thursday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service where a rosary will be recited at 7p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Patrick’s Church.
Mary Ann was born June 22, 1924 in Iowa City, the daughter of James and Kathryn (Callahan) Montgomery. She attended St. Patrick’s School from kindergarten through 12th grade, graduating in 1942. MaryAnn graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. She worked for Mercy Hospital-Iowa City for 34 years and retired in 1986 as the Assistant Director of Nursing. In addition, MaryAnn had been an office nurse for Dr. Pauline Moore and Dr. George Callahan. She was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, a member of God’s Helping Hands, and a board member for the Johnson County Senior Center. Her hobbies included knitting, fishing, gardening and tending to the flowers in her yard.
Mary Ann is survived by her 4 children: Mary Margaret Aeschliman and her husband Richard of Wadena, IA, Kenneth Herdliska and his wife Nancy Reams of Iowa City, Donald Herdliska and his wife Joni of Coin, IA and Julie Meraz and her husband Pastor Jon Meraz of Plainview, NE, 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son William James (Bill), one brother James (Mike), one sister Catherine Moore and one grandson Willie.
