Goldie M. Gardner, 79 of 528 2nd Avenue, Iowa City died Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at Lantern Park Nursing & Rehab Center in Coralville.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 7, 2007, at St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Iowa City with the Reverend John Caldwell officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 pm Friday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service where a White Shrine of Jerusalem Service will be at 7:30 Friday evening. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Goldie's memory to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for Goldie's family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com.
Goldie Mae Burkley was born August 5, 1927, in rural Iowa City the daughter of Ivan and Mildred (Cline) Burkley. She graduated from Kalona High School in 1947. On June 8, 1950 she was united in marriage to Wayne Gardner in Kalona. The couple has lived in their home in Iowa City since 1953. Here she raised her family, and cared for other children through the years.
She was a longtime member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Daughters of the Nile, and the American Legion Auxiliary. If you knew Goldie you knew she enjoyed baking, sewing, her many friends, but most of all her love of family was most important in her life.
Her family includes her husband, Wayne; their children, Joyce K. Rossie and her husband, Jim of Iowa City; Julie S. Barnes and her husband, Art of Iowa City; Joanne M. Moore and her husband, Steve of Iowa City; Allan W. Gardner and his wife, Brenda of West Branch; and Arthur I. Gardner and his wife, Julie of Council Bluffs, IA; 19 grandchildren, Brian Rossie, Michelle Rummelhart, Gregg Gardner, Carl Gardner, Joshua Gardner, Andrew Gardner, Melissa Barnes, Krystle Barnes, Jonathan Barnes, Nathan Gardner, Zac Moore, Zeb Moore, Michael Moore, Abby Gardner, Jacob Gardner, Jared Gardner, Ryan Ostdiek, Dakota Ostdiek, and Shaylie Gardner; 4 great-grandchildren, Allison and Anthony Rummelhart, and Paisley and Avery Gardner; and Goldie's sister, Lois Davis and her husband, Carl of Los Angeles, CA.
Goldie was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Dorothy Pewitt.
