W. Joe Elam, 80

Worley Joe Elam, formerly of Iowa City, residing at Atrium Village in Hills, Iowa, passed away Monday, May 21, 2007 at University Hospitals.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a carpenter until becoming a truck driver for Farm Service. Joe enjoyed gardening, woodworking, motorcycles and camping with the Iowa Airstream Club.

Joe married Shirley Jean Yoder in June 1948 in Iowa City, and was married nearly 59 years.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Hills, Iowa; three children -- Marybelle (Mrs. Robert) Luckason of Cedar Rapids, Jeffrey of Fayette, and Heidi (Mrs. Eric) Brodersen of Washington Island, Wis.; one granddaughter, Erin Brodersen of Milwaukee, Wis.; and one sister, Mary Blair of Coralville.

There will be a Mass at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 29, at Atrium Village for family and close friends.

Memorial donations can be made in Joe's name to the Hills First Responders.
