Coralville Dateline

James "Jim" Van Norden age 73 of 1008 19th Ave. Coralville died suddenly at his home on Monday, October 21, 2002. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Thursday at the Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial with military rites by the Coralville American Legion with assistance from other local organization will at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, memorials are for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

James Joseph Van Norden was born on March 17, 1929 in Lynnville, Iowa the son of C.J. and Leona Van Norden, he attended rural schools and married Annie Seaton and later Judy Dvorsky. He served his country in the Air Force as a Mechanic for Fighter Jets during the Korean War. He returned to Iowa and worked for Amana Refrigeration then on a road construction crew in Texas. He had lived in the Victor area before moving to Coralville where he has lived for the last sixteen years. Jim had worked at Kinze
Manufacturing, Inc. in Williamsburg for 15 years before retiring in 1998. He was known for his ability to fix anything broken and would offer his help at the drop of a hat to his family and friends. Jim loved Bowling and Bluegrass music, in his younger years he played in a number of bands and attended many Bluegrass Festivals. Jim and his stepson Larry built Garden "Pulling" Tractors they used in tractor pulling events and he was a member of the Hills and Lone Tree Tractor Pulling Association and the Coralville American Legion. Jim loved his family and will be missed by all that new him.

His family includes his first wife Annie Seaton of Victor, current wife Judy of Coralville,: daughters: Kathy Blomme of Radcliff, KY, Joann and husband Dan Rogers of Indianapolis, IN., and Wanda of Texas, Step-Children: Larry Maier of Coralville, Robert and wife Linda Maier and Cindy and husband Bill Smith all of Iowa City, and Kristy Brown of Coralville, fourteen grandchildren; Two brother Ray Van Norden of Chelsea, IA, and Carroll Van Norden of IL Three sisters: Joyce Anthony of Brooklyn, IA., Mary Gutierriez of DeKalb, IL, and Connie Kasal of Belle Plaine, IA. His parents and infant brother preceded him in death. The Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service are caring for Jim services and his family.
