Lorene H. Klein, age 89 of Coralville, formerly of Marengo died Thursday, February 23, 2006, at the Colonial Manor Care Center in Amana.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 27, 2006, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, @ 2720 Muscatine Avenue in Iowa City with the Chaplain Donnita Payne-Hostetler officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Amenity Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Online condolences may be sent for Lorene’s family through our website @www.gayandciha.com.

Lorene Helen (Rotter) Klein was born February 7, 1917, in Iowa City the daughter of Benjamin and Minnie (Benz) Rotter. She grew up in the Homestead area, and prior to her marriage worked for Swift Company in Marengo. On June 13, 1936 she married Charles Everett “Chuck” Klein in Rock Island, IL. She worked for Amana Refrigeration for over twelve years following their marriage. The couple lived in the Marengo area for many years before moving to Coralville twenty years ago.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Marengo. Lorene enjoyed her garden, loved cooking and baking for family and friends. She will be deeply missed by many.

Her family includes her husband, Chuck; two daughters and their husbands, Dorothy and Charles Miller of Marion, and Betty Lou and Paul Gardner of Coralville; grandchildren, Barbara Miller, David Miller, Sheri McDonald, and Lori McMahon; great-grandchildren, Ashley McMahon, Emma McMahon and Dylan McDonald; and a sister, Minnie Tomas of Oxford.

Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, and ten brothers and sisters.
